The Dirty Martini cocktail is not famous as its father, the Dry Martini—perhaps it’s because of the name that is not so inviting for a drink—but it shines when it comes down to share the table with dishes of fish and vegetables, thanks to its salty, rocky flavor, which goes well with savory dishes, Indian cuisine and spicy food in general.

The Dirty Martini drink recipe is simple: it is a vodka martini to which is added a little olive juice, which muddies the cocktail turning it completely. It is a particular cocktail, suitable for strong palates, not for everybody, we are not speaking about a classic, winking Mojito. We could say that if you are among those who put the olive, or even two, in the Dry Martini, then we are on track for the perfect cocktail.

But if you are a purist, a Dry Martini lover, probably the Dirty will not appeal to you, but nevertheless, give it a try and you could find a very interesting drink, especially if you plan to pair it with some tapas or finger food.

Dirty Martini ingredients and doses

How to make the perfect Dirty Martini

The cocktail is very simple, just be careful to measure the right amount of olive juice or the drink will lose all its balance and become a glass of Dead Sea: it must be a hint. Put the ice in a mixing glass, pour the ingredients, stir and pour into a Martini glass, which you’ve already cooled with some ice cubes. Garnish with an olive or a skewer of olives.

Pairing Dirty Martini with food?

Yeah, it’s a great idea, because you will hardly find a more suitable drink for this task. Fish and vegetables are the best matches but try the Dirty Martini also with couscous with lamb and eggplant, cannelloni filled with cod and shrimps, parmigiana ravioli, spaghetti with clams, chicken tikka masala, Chicken Cacciatore, Vitello Tonnato, truffle risotto, pasta alla carbonara, paella mixta.
