And finally, with the arrival of the summer (and holidays), the Don Rodrigo cocktail makes his appearance.
Rodrigo is an opulent cocktail, rich in spiced recalls and with a persuasive charm that manages to enchant your palate.
It’s a cocktail to be taken as an aperitif, but it’s perfect to go along with desserts or to refresh your scorching summer night because of its creamy nature.
The ingredients are not exactly common, but nothing comes easy: rum, Drambuie, coconut cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a touch of pepper.
Now a little digression. If you have not (already) tried it, Drambuie is an excellent spirit made from whiskey with heather honey and various herbs, all too often confined in a great recipe, the Rusty Nail, but it’s a shame to use it to flavor other cocktails.
That’s all, now let’s see how to make the Don Rodrigo cocktail, the king of summer.
Ingredients and doses of the Don Rodrigo cocktail
- 4 cl of rum
- 2 cl Drambuie
- 3 cl of coconut cream
- ice
- 2 grams of fresh ground pepper
- 3 grams of cinnamon
- 2 grams of nutmeg
How to prepare the Don Rodrigo cocktail
Cool a Martini glass with some ice cubes.
Put some ice in a shaker, pour rum, Drambuie, and coconut cream, and shake brilliantly for 12 seconds.
Remove ice from the Martini glass and pour the cocktail filtering.
Sprinkle a little bit of nutmeg, pepper, and cinnamon.
Close your eyes and smell this drink. Can you feel the voice of Rodrigo calling you from a burning ship lost in the Caribbean sea?
And there you have it: your next summer cocktail! It is fresh, delicious, and with a symphony of flavors and aromas, which it is impossible to resist.
