The Zombie is a historical cocktail and the creator could only be a genius of Don the Beachcomber, a real Leonardo da Vinci of mixology, inventor of Tiki cocktails and connoisseur of every type of rum. We have a certain date of the birth of the Zombie cocktail: 1934, the date on which the cocktail upsets the mixing scene with an earthquake of unprecedented power. The Zombie becomes a craze and in less than a year it enters by force into the Olympus of great classics.
But what is so special about the Zombie cocktail, why is it so popular, even though few people know how to do it properly?
The big problem with the Zombie is finding the right balance, the right mix of rum is essential since there are 3 kinds of sugar cane distillates.
Another great difficulty is preparing all the ingredients of the Zombie cocktail and stuffing them in a single glass. You have to make the juices, without using industrial broths, find a decent Falernum and finally prepare the Don’s Mix, a cinnamon syrup to which is added grapefruit juice. Now think about these endless suggestions and try to distill them in a small glass: what comes out of it is a glowing supernova of flavor, with strong alcohol content.
The technique for making the Zombie cocktail is simple: you need a blender and some crushed ice, but be careful not to put too much of it otherwise it becomes a vulgar milkshake. And the Zombie is not a frozen cocktail!

How to make the Zombie cocktail
Put all the ingredients in a blender, add the ice and blend for a few seconds, never more than 5 seconds. The cocktail is not a frozen drink, so no milkshakes, please.
If you want to make the perfect Zombie cocktail, just follow the recipe and everything is gonna be alright. The doses are important: especially the quantity of ice. 5 seconds of blending and 170 grams of ice, that’s all. Kudos if you use a super cool Tiki mug!
How to make the Don’s Mix
Don’s Mix is a sugar syrup flavored with cinnamon, to which is added grapefruit juice. Grind 5 cinnamon sticks with a pepper mill or mortar. Put the cinnamon in a saucepan with half a liter of water and simmer gently for 10 minutes, then turn off and let cool for a few minutes. Strain to remove the cinnamon. Weigh the decoction of cinnamon and add twice the weight in sugar, stir to dissolve the sugar and so the cinnamon syrup is ready. No need to cook or simmer syrup, just stir.
Remember that the ratio of grapefruit juice to cinnamon syrup is 2 to 1. At this point, it is sufficient to weigh the syrup you want to use and add twice the weight of the yellow grapefruit juice. And this is how Don’s Mix is made: try to use it as soon as possible, even if it can last a couple of days in the refrigerator.
