It falls into the sour cocktail category, i.e., those drinks made with a distillate, lemon or lime juice, and liquor like triple sec or Maraschino.

The recipe is simple and straightforward and embodies all the flavors of Mexico: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, that’s all. It’s a salt and lemon twist on the classic Tequila shot, retaining the allure of this beautiful cocktail with a high alcohol content.

The result is an aromatic blend that stands in perfect harmony.

A citrus symphony in which the strong taste of Tequila is steeped in fresh lime juice and the sugary and persuasive echo of Triple Sec, a delicious liqueur flavored with the essential oil of bitter orange, which often replaces the sugar syrup.

History of the cocktail Margarita

It seems that the name comes from the actress Marjorie King, an American actress of the first years of the twentieth century, who was allergic to any alcohol except our friend Tequila. So, one of the many unknown bartenders who have mixed drinks throughout history came up with this drink for the diva.

It is a cocktail you can sip from top to bottom, perfect as an aperitif but also delicious after dinner to keep yourself hydrated and perky.

Ingredients for making the cocktail Margarita

  • 3,5 cl of Tequila
  • 2 cl of triple sec
  • 1,5 cl of fresh juice of lime or lemon

How to prepare the original Margarita cocktail

Put three ice cubes in a cup. Squeeze a lime or lemon and strain the juice. Put all the ingredients with ice in a Boston glass and shake for 15 seconds.

Remove the ice from the cup and wet half of the rim of the glass with a slice of lime. Dip the edge of the cup in the salt and turn quickly. Shake to remove any excess salt and strain the liquid in the cup.

Pro tip

Remember that the sweetener is the triple sec; add a few drops if you want a milder cocktail.
