Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil and you can drink it every hour and on every occasion. The recipe is straightforward: cachaça (a Brazilian spirit distilled from the juice of sugar cane), lime (that must be crushed with a pestle in the glass) and sugar with the addition of crumbled ice and a slice of lime as a garnish.

Ingredients of the original Brazilian Caipirinha
- 5 cl of cachaça
- 1/2 lime
- 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
How to prepare the perfect Caipirinha
Cut the lime into wedges and place it in a glass with 2 spoons of sugar. Add a drizzle of cachaça and pound vigorously to extract juice and flavors from the peel of the lime, mix well, then pour cachaça and ice (crushed ice, if you want to cool cocktail faster) to fill the glass. Cracked ice is always the best solution. If you like, garnish with a slice of lime and then serve. For a perfect Caipirinha drink, wait 5 minutes before serving the cocktail to cool down properly, or prepare it in a large bowl or jug to find a good balance between the ingredients.
