Directions
The Blue Hawaiian cocktail is the classic tropical drink to sip on vacation, perhaps on a sunny Hawaii beach, where this sumptuous rum-based cocktail was born.
There is not much to say about the Blue Hawaiian cocktail and its ingredients: it is a variant of the legendary Pina Colada. A dash of Blue Curacao is added to give a slightly citrus and bitterish touch. It’s a good idea: Pina Colada is naturally sweet and velvety and a fresh-aromatic touch works wonders.
But that’s all. The magic is all here. There are no legends or epic narratives about this blue cocktail. Remember to use an extractor to make real pineapple juice and buy a good coconut cream. Light Cuban rum is fine but opt for spicy Jamaican rum to make a more sumptuous cocktail.
Ingredients and doses for making the Blue Hawaiian cocktail
- 3 cl of Cuban rum
- 2 cl of Blue Curacao
- 9 cl of pineapple juice
- 3 cl of coconut cream
- crushed ice, always
- 1 slice of pineapple (optional)
- 1.5 cl of lime or lemon juice
- 1 slice of pineapple
- pineapple leaf and cherry to decorate the drink
How to make the Blue Hawaiian cocktail
Start with pineapple juice: make it with the extractor, squeeze half a lime or lemon and strain the juice.
Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend for a few seconds, no more than 20 seconds. But above all, never put too much ice: you don’t have to turn the cocktail into a frozen, but only mix and cool the ingredients. Decorate with a maraschino cherry, a slice of pineapple and its leaf.
Suggested food pairings
Grilled cheese sandwich, chicken tikka masala, Chicken Cacciatore, Vitello Tonnato, truffle risotto, paella mixta.
