The Grappa Fashioned cocktail is a classic meditation drink, an Italian twist of the legendary Old Fashioned. To make it more special, we are going to prepare a cocktail with aged grappa and a good splash of Marsala wine to make the drink more fascinating. To complete we’ll add a couple of tablespoons of black tea and a few drops of coffee aromatic bitters.
Put everything in a mixing glass with ice, stir gently and serve in an old-fashioned glass. Nothing difficult, but the result is an amazing cocktail to drink as an after dinner. You could also try it as an aperitif, the flavor is acceptable, but the alcohol content is heavy. If instead you are used to drinking Old Fashioned as an aperitif, you can continue on the same groove, but with a slightly different taste, nuttier, and less caramelized.
Ingredients and doses for making the Grappa Fashioned cocktail
- 4 cl of aged grappa, not from aromatic vines
- 1 cl of Marsala
- 2 dashes of Angostura
- 2 tablespoons of black tea
- 0.5 cl of sugar syrup
- orange peel
How to make the Grappa Fashioned cocktail
Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, stir for 1 minute and then pour into an old-fashioned glass, filled with ice, filtering with the julep. Take the orange peel, and with a torch burn the essential oils of the peel over the cocktail.
If you want to do it the old fashion way, put the sugar in a glass, add the coffee bitters and the Marsala, stir to dissolve the sugar, add grappa and tea and stir gently. Add a piece of ice and serve.
Suggested food pairings
Try it with chocolate desserts, fresh fruit, coffee or orange cheesecake: tiramisù, chocolate salami, pear and chocolate tart, bonet, vegan panna cotta, galaktoboureko.
