Directions
The Abruzzo Fashioned is a cocktail that doesn’t joke at all. It is like this region: rocky, rugged, grumpy, but generous, rich, sunny even though the woods of the Maiella are dark. In Abruzzo, you will find everything: sea and mountains, fire and ice, dragons and Marsican bear, but what is not lacking are two spirits that have accompanied man since the first Abruzzese hominid appeared at the foot of Gran Sasso: gentian grappa and Ratafia.
Gentian grappa is bitter and aromatic, intense, almost balsamic. Ratafia is the liqueur made with sour cherries macerated in Montepulciano wine, a masterpiece of sweetness and meaty delicacy. So we combined them with a peaty whiskey to make a cocktail in honor of Abruzzo, a classic twist of the Old Fashioned, where sweetness and bitter flavors dance on the razor of the Scotch smoke.
