Cubical London dry gin review and tasting notes

The Cubical London dry gin is an ephebic distillate, thin, citrusy, with a slender body and characterized by great smoothness.

It is classified as London dry gin, but don’t think for a moment about a rough, rocky or lashing distillate, on the contrary, if you taste it blind it seems almost an American gin.

As you well know, the botanicals used to make Cubical London dry gin are the classic British style ones, and therefore juniper, cardamom, citrus, cumin, but there is a peculiarity. The presence of a particular citrus fruit called the hand of Buddha, a cedar victim of a malformation that causes a lack of development of the segments, which clump creating a round fruit with more elongated offshoots that resemble the fingers of a hand. Hence the name, but it is true that it is a precious and sought-after fruit throughout the East, thanks to its incredible balsamic scent. And all the gin is impregnated with this glacial and sharp scent, but pulpy, it looks like even more expressive bergamot and with candied traces.

Organoleptic characteristics of Cubical London dry gin

The nose is a sweep of ice with the resinous and pungent scents of juniper that mix with cedar incessantly. The pace is fast, the line is elegant, well designed with spices and ginger to finish. We liked it because it has a very specific stylistic connotation and does not want to overdo it. It focuses on discreet elegance and does not pour twenty thousand perfumes on your face.

On the palate, it is very docile, smooth, perhaps even too much. He’s not evil at all, but he lacks some dynamism. The pace is good, the sip is full of pepper and citrus flavors. Apollonian thickness, it’s not a masterpiece but seduces you with its sly charm. Overall it is a very delicate gin in the gustatory development, but it is never banal.

Price of Cubical London dry gin

The retail price is around 33 euros, an overall adequate figure for a decent and well-made gin.

Being citrusy and fresh in nature, it lends itself to being used for sharp cocktails such as Gin Tonic, Paradise, Tom Collins, Heidi, Bramble, Negroni, Gin Fizz, French 75, Tuxedo, Dry Martini, Singapore Sling, Ramos Gin Fizz, Gimlet,  Bronx. For making Negroni it’s not great.
