Tra l’Altro Vino Bianco 2020 Carussin: an amazing Moscato di Canelli!
With the arrival of summer, finding a pleasant, fresh wine that is not heavy, but at the same time not too banal is very difficult. Either you get tired immediately due to alcohol and heaviness or you aim for a pet nat or a Champagne, but in the long run, let’s say that summer is very demanding.
Especially if we talk about white wines. Fortunately, the Tra l’Altro Vino Bianco 2020 Carussin comes to meet us. It is a small masterpiece of Piedmontese goldsmithing.
Everything is studied to perfection, everything flows with great lightness and elegance, however leaving deep sensations and great pleasure on the palate.
Juicy, savory and just the right amount of softness, it is an easy-to-approach wine; however, it does not give up a certain gustatory depth and a surprising thickness for a dry Moscato.
How it is produced
The blend is 80% white Moscato di Canelli and 20% Cortese. The vineyards are in San Marzano Oliveto and are 40 years old or more. The vineyards are all cultivated in the most natural way possible, with the use of sulfur and copper for the treatments. After the harvest in September, the bunches are gently pressed and the Moscato is fermented and aged in tonneau, while the Cortese is barrique.
Organoleptic characteristics
The bouquet is an aromatic storm where Moscato dominates: flowers, sage, musk, mint and all the fruit in the world. It is a gigantic fruit salad, a Pandora’s box that continues to shoot fruit like a cannon gone mad. The tone is intense and pressing, with a background of vanilla and aromatic herbs. There is also a hint of minerality to keep everything together and give momentum. Overall pleasant.
On the palate everything is in order. Sharp acidity, well-studied softness to give balance and flavor that tastes of oysters and rocks to propel the sip. The structure is slender, but it expands, it is not a dry and lean wine, but rather plays with this roundness and explores boundaries often forbidden to Moscato. Good balance and lots of drinkability. It’s not a difficult wine, just slightly more developed than usual.
Price
16 euros: a suitable price for a good quality bottle, made by vineyard artisans and not by industrial cellars. A piece of Piedmont in the glass. No frills, but sunny and contagiously drinkable.
