Gin Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla review and tasting notes
The Gin Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla was a nice surprise, a distillate that does not give up the typical grit of the battlefield London dry gin but opens up to a splendid citrus freshness. Do not expect an artisan gin, it comes from the Tanqueray distilleries, which churn out millions of bottles, but for an industrial distillate it is not bad at all and above all, it has a certain personality. Surprisinglyit is not as aggressive and rough as the smooth progenitor.
The big question is: was there a need for an orange-flavored gin? Actually no, many do it, but the result is not very brilliant, aromatizing gin at an industrial level is always a fallback solution, the aromas are stylized and static, we might as well add fresh juice or essential oil. After all, these flavored gins were born due to the proliferation of a thousand twists of the gin and tonic, which has now become a bathtub full of aromas and botanicals, it is certainly not a distillate to drink straight, but with tonic or ginger beer.
Organoleptic characteristics of Gin Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla
Algid and pungent nose with good compactness, citrus fruits in evidence, juniper sprouting from every pore, cardamom and cumin to act as a spicy frame. Overall it’s not a cornucopia, but it does its dirty job without overdoing it. Ginger, cloves and pepper in the finish.

On the palate it is smooth, pleasantly acidic, supported by a credible and sustained alcoholic development. Good drinkability, flows smoothly, not very long, but aromatic, dry and resinous-bitter as a Spartan gin should be. Clean and essential.
How is Gin Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla made?
After distillation, the infamous Seville bitter oranges are infused into the gin. Legend has it that the founder of the distilleries, Charles Tanqueray, in 1860, during a visit to a large Sevillian orange grove, had the idea of producing a gin in which he put oranges to macerate. In 2018 Tanqueray pulled the recipe of good old Charles out of the drawer and decided to produce this Flor De Sevilla.

Cocktail to do with Gin Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla

All fresh citrus-based cocktails such as Gin Tonic, Paradise, Tom Collins, Heidi, Bramble, Gin Fizz, French 75, Tuxedo, Singapore Sling, Ramos Gin Fizz, Gimlet, Bronx, strange but not bad for the Vesper. Honestly out of place for making the Negroni, too acidic, better to focus on earthy and not so citrusy gins.
