2020 Le Boccette Quarticello: An Easy To Drink Emilian Ancestral Method
The 2020 Le Boccette Quarticello is a fresh and inviting sparkling wine based on Spergola, very simple and immediate, never bland. It plays on an extraordinary rhythm, vertical flavor, juice, and unstoppable drinkability.
It is a classic refermented in the bottle, an ancestral or pet-nat method, call it what you want, but in reality, it is the traditional sparkling wine with a base that has always been produced in Emilia. There is nothing new under the sun, only in this case, the wine is splendid, sunny, and flawless on an organoleptic level.
Tradition, but interpreted with great sensitivity: it is not a rough or melancholy wine that looks to a bucolic past. Even my grandfather made a wine similar to Langhirano at home, but let’s say enough of the myth of homemade wine as a good Samaritan of the countryside. Behind this is the awareness of a professional who has studied and understood his territory, learning to interpret it brilliantly.
How is it produced?
The Spergola vineyards rise on the hills of Montecchio Emilia and have been managed under a certified organic regime since 2015. The Quarticello winery has five hectares; therefore, we talk about a one-man army winery. Maceration of the must on the skins for two days, spontaneous fermentation, and aging in steel. No filtration or clarification. The wine is bottled before the fermentation is over and therefore has the bottom due to the second fermentation in the bottle.
Organoleptic characteristics
Sharp and pungent bouquet with peach, ginger, citrus, and a very delicate finish of flowers.
The tone is subtle, elegant, and puts you in a good mood. The yeasts have worked well. You can smell the tasty scent of bread. Nothing pyrotechnic, but well done, commendable precision.
On the palate, it has good citrus acidity and tastes like grapefruit. It moves vigorously, pushed by a pinch of salt, a lot of pulp, and a persistent effervescence that lengthens the sip. An all-juice wine that does not disappoint and does not hide despite having a good balance and never being rude. It closes in a crescendo with a finish of peach and aromatic herbs.
Price
15 euros: a calibrated price. If you are looking for a natural wine that is easy to drink, light-hearted, and with good verticality, give it a chance, and it will not disappoint you.
