2020 Il Salinaro Grillo Cantine Pellegrino: The Review Of A Super Salty Wine
The 2019 Il Salinaro Grillo made by Cantine Pellegrino is a salty and pulpy white wine, very simple, but all played on the contrast between the fruit and sea breeze. It is not a trivial wine, despite the remarkable ease of drinking. It does not aim for depth but immediacy, flavor, and a breezy trait.
How is it produced?
The vines have their roots in a splendid vineyard in Petrosino, in the Marsala area, a few meters from the sea. The soils are a mixture of limestone and sand, with abundant marine fossils. Harvest at the end of August, fermentation, and aging in steel. Processing is quick to preserve aromas and freshness. 100% Grillo.
Organoleptic characteristics
We find a sunny, citrusy wine in the glass, spontaneous in its aroma but with a good presence. The bouquet is played on a waltz of flowers, fruit, and marine returns, such as iodine and algae.
The sea returns to the palate. The juiciness is punctuated by a tasty citrus fruit that pushes and gives excellent persistence to the sip.
Lean structure; finish of licorice and magnolia.
It is not a complex or multifaceted wine, but what is there is marked with cleanliness and great humility. When you have grapes that are caressed by the sea breezes every day, you don’t need much else.
And therefore honor to the Pellegrino winery for having interpreted this wine in a clean and spartan way, enhancing its most original side without covering it with tropical yeasts or processes that forced its acidity.
Overall it is a wine that does not disappoint. Easy to approach but made enjoyable by the marine thrust.

9-10 euros: an honest price.
