2020 Gruner Veltliner Pacherhof: an excellent white wine from the Isarco Valley
The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Pacherhof is a salty, fresh, mineral white wine full of intriguing green and spicy references that make the tasting exciting and serene. It is not a wine with a sidereal structure, it is certainly still young, but even now, it is of incredible goodness.
How is it produced?
The grapes come from a vineyard located at a high altitude, of 600-900 meters above sea level, in the legendary Isarco Valley, in the locality of Novacella. The soils are a mixture of very draining gravel and sand. Cultivation is respectful and does not involve pesticides or herbicides, but only copper and sulfur in minimal quantities.
The strong thermal excursion helps fix the aroma and gives the grapes excellent acidity, avoiding the jam effect.
After the harvest, the grapes are pressed, and the must ferments in steel thanks to indigenous yeasts. Refinement is carried out in large barrels, given that Andrea Huber has renounced the use of barriques for years.
Organoleptic characteristics
The bouquet is like the color yellow held, mottled with green. Apples and peaches are framed by a jumble of spices like cumin and cinnamon and then come delicious herbaceous notes. The game between hot fruit and aromatic herbs is hypnotic. Notes of chalk in the finish. Of course, it is aromatic, but it is never overbearing or monothematic but instead leaves room for clear mineral notes.
It is mineral, slender, and sharp on the palate due to the convergence of flavor and acidity. The structure is medium, but it always remains tonic and juicy thanks to mineral verticality. Roundness is sufficient, just enough to rebalance the sip. Drunk now is still edgy and green, but in any case,e tasty. In 5 years, it will have sculpted all this matter, transforming it into an even more engaging evolution.
Among the white wines of the Isarco Valley, it is one of the most intriguing and clean if we talk about Grüner. The spices are there, but it never becomes stylized or predictable.
