Opihr Gin Review And Tasting Notes

Opihr

Opihr is one of the most original gins we’ve tasted lately due to its bold spiciness.

Not that it is a too strong or structured or alcoholic gin. On the contrary, it is round and charming in the mouth, even if its spicy charge is intense and knows how to tickle the palate.

The Opihr gin is produced according to the classic London dry gin recipe by the G&J distillery, one of London’s oldest and most renowned.

Java pepper, cumin, cardamom, orange peel, and juniper stand out among the botanicals.

The bouquet

The nose is a riot of spices and earthy, resinous hints, each well marked and emphasized by citrus embroideries. It focuses a lot on intensity, not finesse, let’s say that it is well-balanced, enveloping of fabric, but if you don’t like strong spicy aromas, you better go elsewhere. You won’t find many delicate or floral scents.

The taste

It is equally bold, cheeky, punctuated by a good step in the mouth. As soon as you put it in your mouth, you will feel a vertical explosion of spices, a peppery and hot mixture that envelops the whole mouth in a peremptory way. It has aggressive alcoholic thickness but is not rude. The balance between hard and soft parts is impressive: it is a great gin distilled with care.

It is a strong gin, but it is not as robust as a Plymouth original strength. It is just that it has a well-marked spiciness.

The price

A pretty honest cost, 35-40 euros at the most. In line with products of similar quality.

Cocktail to do with Opihr gin

Immediately to feel your pulse and understand how to dose it, we recommend a gin and tonic, then you can switch to Bramble, Ramos Gin Fizz, Singapore Sling, Bronx, Gin Fizz, Negroni, Tuxedo, and Cocktail Martini.
