Whisky Cragganmore 12 Year Old Review And Tasting Notes
The Cragganmore 12 whisky is one of the great classics of Speyside, an elegant, round distillate with a thousand floral and herbaceous aromas but not even a trace of peat.
It is a crystalline, enveloping whisky characterized by a softness both on the nose and on the palate with a decadent feel, but do not think it is mushy or redundant. Indeed it has excellent texture, but above all, freshness to no end.
It is precisely this balance between caramel and citrus that makes it deserving and mottled, never bland or repetitive.
You will find a lot of thickness, various suggestions and an irresistible background softness in this Cragganmore 12, also famous for the shape of the stills, responsible for the tremendous aromatic charge of this distillate.
The bouquet
Sweet, honeyed nose, with hints of sweet spices such as cinnamon, but immediately cut by a blade that tastes of lime, lemon, bergamot and orange.
It is a spectacular progression, unstoppable and consistently well dosed. There are no interruptions between sweetness and freshness: everything is declined with measure, set in a skeleton of yellow, syrupy fruit and alpine herbs. Excellent persistence, floral finish with dried fruit.
The flavor
In the mouth, it is consistent, clean, clear and fresh, with softness and ample structure. The flavors from the wood are there; they have delicately modeled a pulpy and ripe fruit that recalls oscillating between peaches in syrup and malt but which shows no uncertainties.
From the caramel, it passes to the lemon peel, it returns to the herbs and then evaporates again in the flowers. Fabulous balance and great acid boost.
Do not think that there are only peaty whiskeys. It would be pure madness. This Cragganmore 12 is a little gem, sure, it has a busty and velvety mouth, but you will love it once you kiss these honey lips.
