There is nothing better than a Whiskey Sour on a day of asphyxiating heat. It is the king of sour cocktails, drinks prepared with spirits, fresh lemon juice and sugar, a drink that focuses on a few carefully selected ingredients, which must be of the first choice. Especially the lemon must have a degree of ripeness taste, otherwise, the drink will turn out too sour and rude.
And instead, the whiskey sour, despite having a steel soul, is an enveloping and seductive cocktail, with a precise and clean flavor, with the caramelized and smoky aromas of bourbon that are refreshed by the aromatic charge of lemon. It is excellent as an aperitif and to accompany you after dinner, especially in the hottest periods.
The history of Whiskey Sour is as old as whiskey itself, given that the preparation method is that of the first cocktails: sugar in the glass, juice, whiskey and crumbled ice or at least this is the first recipe written by the immortal Jerry Thomas in his book titled How to Mix Drinks or The Bon-Vivant’s Companion.
Today, we use sugar syrup to have a more amalgamated and compact cocktail, but nothing prevents you from using the ancient method.

How to make the Whiskey Sour cocktail
It is prepared in the shaker. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon and strain it. Fill the shaker with ice, pour all the ingredients and shake for 15 seconds, then pour, straining, into an old-fashioned glass full of ice and decorate with an orange slice and, if you like a frivolous touch, a maraschino cherry. The old Jerry advised adding small fruits: if you find blueberries and raspberries, do not hesitate and dip them inside.
Albumen: yea or nay?
The version of this cocktail with egg white is also gaining traction, more than anything else, it is a splendid decoration, the flavor is barely perceptible. If you want to try it with egg white, add 4 tablespoons of egg white before shaking in the shaker. If you don’t like egg white or are vegan, use the acquafaba, the one used for cooking chickpeas, the one used in jars.
