Gin 209 tasting notes and review
There is a lot of talk about Gin 209, an artisanal distillate of American origin, one of the most prized and appreciated by the public.
But is it really that good?
Yes, of course, it is very good, subtle, with just the right dose of spices and full of citrus hints, among which the Calabrian bergamot stands out.
In the mouth, it is warm and round, smooth, with a spicy start that slowly dissolves into a myriad of veils that are discovered little by little, citrus fruits, peels, cardamom, mineral references.
The finish is clean, with returns of orange and ginger flowers, of an impressive length.
The boy has charm, he feels that it is produced with first choice botanicals. Not to mention the raw material, the grain used for distillation.
But we’re not here to style dolls, we want to figure out if it’s just good or a masterpiece.
Many of the gins we’ve tasted lately are bold, rocky, and quirky. Some are spicy, warmer, more aromatic and floral, some are pleasantly biased towards flavors of licorice and ginger, those who are sharp and those who are hotter: in short, everyone has something to say.
And this gin 209 is no exception. We must tell the truth, at first, especially after tasting another 20 gins, it looked good, flamboyant, but perhaps a little stylized. Too framed and pleased.
All beautiful, but the paw of the sample is missing, even if the aromas are of remarkable intensity, penetrating.
Perhaps the expectations were too high, but after some counter tests with various cocktails and the encounter with the Singapore Sling, its potential emerged.
What cocktails to make with gin 209
It loses a bit in the tonic, but just mix it with fresh fruit juices and it becomes a fabulous distillate, especially if you combine it with orange or lemon juice, for clear reasons of elective affinity. Let’s use it to make Gin and Tonic, Bramble, Ramos Gin Fizz, Singapore Sling, Negroni, Tuxedo, Bronx, Gin Fizz, Cocktail Martini.
The story of the name of the bottle and the distilleries of the same name is beautiful: 209 because it was the 209th distillery to open in the United States.
Gin 209 price
50 euros, one of the most expensive, but considering the extreme quality of the product, there is nothing to complain about.
