Gargantuan Garganega: Soave Classico Vineyards of Foscarino Inama 2019
The Soave Classico Vigneti di Foscarino Inama 2019 is a creamy and savory white wine, with a remarkable structure, broad in the “aromatic development”, and full, but beautifully played between flavor and softness. It is not a lean wine; quite the opposite, it focuses on a very intriguing crescendo of minerality and butter without ever falling into predictability.
How it is produced
The grapes come from 40-year-old vines in a specific cru called Monte Foscarino, where basaltic and lava-based soils give the wine a very mineral taste. After the harvest, derapsation, crushing, and 12-hour maceration with the must, it ferments in used barriques and ages for six months on the fine lees, then rests for a further six months in stainless steel tanks.
Organoleptic characteristics
The color is a golden yellow that is intense and hypnotic. It moves me thick in the glass. The bouquet is opulent and syrupy, with baked apples and mango then drowned in honey. Garnish of almonds and rocks, endless white flowers, and an already dried broom The tone is fleshy, elegant, and masterfully mottled with mineral and smoky notes.
Finish of nutmeg, vanilla, and canned peach. Overall, it is very full but energetic, without forcing, and even the wood is never suffocating or too marked.
On the palate, it is vigorous in thrust, with ample aromaticity, furrowed by elegant smoky notes, and very fresh and deep in development. It’s not just salt and roundness, but it has so much to say and does it without fear. Long and tasty finish, rightly almondy, with a memory of flowers that re-emerges. An accommodating Garganega that is easy to drink, precise, but never predictable.
Price
20 euros: an excellent price for an eloquent and bold white wine that is not afraid to show all the complexity that the hills of volcanic origin in Soave can give to their wines.
