Aged to Perfection: The Rich Flavors of Le Giare Marzadro’s Grappa di Amarone
Grappa di Amarone Le Giare Marzadro is an elegant, rich distillate that has a lot of spicy notes, vanilla, and wood. Despite all of the suggestions that come with aging in wood, it manages to develop a very elegant and characteristic aromatic charm.
It is an aged grappa produced in an artisanal way, with discontinuous Trentino alembics and a bain-marie boiler, just as the Trentino tradition dictates.
The pomaces of Corvina, Molinara, and Rondinella are used to produce a sumptuous wine such as Amarone; therefore, they are very rich in polyphenols, sugars, and perfumes, making them excellent material to be distilled, thanks to the dehydration of the bunches before vinification.
When you add 36 months of aging in 400-liter wooden barrels, you’ll understand that what’s in the glass is a very strong grappa, pungent because of its ethereal notes but also wonderful because of its depth and all the different layers of complexity that change with the taste.
The bouquet of Grappa di Amarone, Le Giare Marzadro
As soon as it is uncorked, it is closed; it takes at least an hour to let it breathe, then it opens up like a rainbow of perfumes, which are always austere and elegant. Forget about the usual barricaded vanilla grappas; this one is fine and subtle, with dried fruit, ripe peaches, streams of honey, sweet spices, cocoa, and an herbaceous finish. Excellent variety; the nose on the whole is measured, never showy. The wooden passage was masterfully managed.
Flavor
On the tongue, it’s smooth and soft, with ripe, honeyed, oxidized flavors and dried fruit that stand out.
Excellent to drink, with a clean aroma that gets spicier and almost peppery at the end to make light brushstrokes.
Amazing retro-nasal of pure elegance
