2015 Cinque Terre Forlini Cappellini Review And Tasting Notes
The 2015 Cinque Terre Forlini Cappellini is a splendid Ligurian blend based on Albarola, Bosco, and Vermentino, one of those natural wines that taste and smell the rocks, the salt, and the Ligurian sun.
If you want to find out what sapidity means when it comes to wine, try this wine, produced separately from grapes caressed every day by the sea breeze, since the terraces on which the vines stand are small on the sea.
Organoleptic characteristics
Is it a difficult wine? No, it is clear as the sun, but it risks dazzling you because of so many layers of flavor, the reversals of rhythm, and the waves of salt and citrus that mix in the mouth. Reading is easy, but it’s up to the reader to avoid missing the detail.
Because this wine is a work of fiction. It tells you about the sea and the coast, cedars, flowers and algae, aromatic herbs, and basil, passing through the joy of dripping honey. The floral, green, and almost smoky traits are many but hinted at with delicacy.
It is not an aromatic wine but expansive and eloquent, yes. In the background, if you are careful, you will hear how the scent of lemon slowly slips into the sage and pine needles.
It has an excellent sapid charge on the palate, played down by vibrant acidity and good softness. It is not a lemonade. On the contrary, it tries to build a credible and nuanced gustatory volume, terrace after terrace, nuance after nuance. The alcoholic fullness is adequate to support all this opulence. Medium texture, not colossal, well polished at this point.
The vintage is 2015, it is 7 years old, but it is still young and impetuous. All this rock can evolve well over time, but you can drink it even now. It will certainly not disappoint you.
How is it produced?
This Cinque Terre DOC is produced in Manarola, Riomaggiore, starting from vineyards located at the height of 300 meters, in terraces with dry stone walls, in the heart of the Cinqueterre National Park. Soft pressing, spontaneous fermentation in steel with aging for 5-6 months always in steel.
Price
€ 27-33: the price reflects the craftsmanship of a wine produced in minimal quantities, the care taken in even more artisanal production, and the effort of working in extremely conditions-vineyards. It is an excellent investment wine, considering its rarity, but also to be placed in the cellar to meditate for the next 5 years.
Food Pairings
Ceviche, pizza with scamorza and zucchini, parmigiana ravioli, spaghetti with clams, chicken tikka masala, Chicken Cacciatore, Vitello Tonnato, truffle risotto, pasta alla carbonara.
