The Lucky Bastard is a new mocktail, a demonstration that even non-alcoholic drinks have a reason to exist, if well done, of course!

The secret for making great mocktails is a little bit of planning: you have to create an irresistible symphony of scents, try to touch hidden strings with ingredients of first choice. Remember that a mocktail is like a naked man, has no veils, no alcohol to mask any imperfections, so all the flavors must be well balanced and mixed.

Take as an example a classic punch and then proceed by subtraction, eliminating alcohol, but then adding an ingredient that works as an aromatic substitute.

In this case we mixed orange juice, passion fruit pulp, almond milk and a sprinkle of nutmeg. A quartet of unusual ingredients, but if you can make the right combo of contrasts and harmonies, the drink will be fine.

Try it the next time you want to drink a delicious and refreshing mocktail and you will not regret it!

Lucky Bastard mocktail ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 1 passion fruit
  • a sprinkle of nutmeg
  • 2 cl of almond milk
  • 2 drops of essence of roses
  • 1 cm of fresh ginger

How to make the perfect Lucky Bastard mocktail

Squeeze the orange, strain juice and put in a small piece of ginger. Pound lightly.

Halve the passion fruit and with a spoon remove pulp, mash and filter. Keep a bit ‘of pulp aside.

Now remove ginger and pour orange juice, passion fruit, almond milk in a mixing glass filled with ice, sprinkle with a little of nutmeg, drop 2 dashes of essence of roses and stir gently.

Fill a glass with ice, pour the cocktail, filtering with a strainer (or not if you want a more rustic drink) and serve your new non-alcoholic aperitif!
