Thai-tanic Pairing: My Albana Project 1 Leone Conti, the Elegant Wine for Spicy Flavors
My Albana Progetto 1 Leone Conti is an enveloping and sharp wine, tenacious, salty, full of delicate aromas, and of great elegance. It is not a full and pigmented, impetuous, and corybantic Albana as it has been interpreted in recent years by the most gifted winemakers in Romagna, but it remains technical, dry, and very subtle.
Yes, exactly; it doesn’t make maceration, it doesn’t see the amphora, and it doesn’t take holidays in the concrete egg, but only a simple steel, and it focuses entirely on the fineness of the line and lightness.
If you want something more daring, there is always the Albana Project 2. This is the most lighthearted and dynamic, the cheeky one that you can always drink, at all hours and on every occasion, both as an aperitif and for a fish dinner or with Chinese takeout.
How it is produced
The grapes come from the splendid, organically run vineyards of Leone Conti’s cellar, which are scattered in the hills of Santa Lucia, just outside Faenza. Soft pressing, fermentation in steel, and short aging, always in steel.
Organoleptic characteristics
Dull yellow color, queen bee wing. The bouquet is fruity, mineral, decisive, and cheeky, but softened by almost cosmetic notes of roses and wax, thyme, and baked glazed broom with maple syrup. Elegant, succinct, almost spicy, but it doesn’t unbutton.
On the palate, it is direct, carved in pink Himalayan salt. It moves with rhythm, propelled by a light acidity that tickles the palate with grace. Medium structure, good depth of sip, drinkability, and cedar and chalk flavors. never difficult. It is always pleasant and delicious.
Price
14 euros: the right price for this more than decent white wine from Romagna.
