Tasting the Tide: A Review of the Salt-Tinged Bisci Vigneto Fogliano 2019 Wine
Bisci Vigneto Fogliano 2019 is a powerful and salty Verdicchio di Matelica, a wine that, when drunk now, is certainly edgy and rude, but in 5–6 years, it will be a small white masterpiece.
It is not an aperitif wine, but it tries to explore the potential of a white that is still too underestimated and vulgarly labeled as a drinkable wine, when in reality, under the right conditions, Verdicchio di Matelica has a unique aging potential, elegance, and “envelopment.”
Indeed, let’s face it: this wine was born to be great and ambitious.
It was created to dispel myths about the white wines of the Le Marche region, which are good only for seafood appetizers.
Born to amaze and give infinite pleasure.
How it is produced
100% Verdicchio di Matelica, grown in the Fogliano vineyard cru, where limestone-based soils, excellent exposure, and a good range ensure a perfect microclimate for the production of acidic and rocky white wines. Low planting density (3300 vines), 44-year-old vines, and clean management of the vineyard without pesticides or chemical synthesis products Manual harvest, vinification in steel, rest in fiberglass, and then bottle. The rest is entrusted to the care of time.
Organoleptic characteristics
Golden-yellow color.
Green, citrusy, and gritty, with hints of rock, salt, and broom. Honey and pineapple to frame a lovely body.
Great elegance, although right now it is limited and needs time. The stuff is there: variety, depth, charismatic traits, endless sea waves.
On the palate, it answers the question, “Grandfather, what does the sea taste like?”
Of course, it is a bit closed, monolithic, and rocky; however, the sip is elegant; it tickles you with a sharp point of iodine. It is dynamic, but the structure is very full-bodied. salt and more green flavors, well dosed, never rude. Hay and cereal finish.
As a wine, it is great, but now it is only good; it has a slap in the face for everyone, but it lacks that personality that it will develop with the next 6–10 years of aging. So buy it and forget it in the cellar until the next decade, and you have a great wine. If you drank it now, it would be a sin.
