Strada Corniolo 2019 Trebbiano Villa Papiano: the perfect white wine for Valentine’s Day dinner
Trebbiano Strada Corniolo 2019 Villa Papiano is a fantastic, tiny, artigianal-lovely wine from an incredible cellar, one of those white wines that make you think of anything but Romagna wine.
Let’s not talk about Trebbiano since we are in Romagna, the land of Cevico and other industries that produce aberrant wines that do not taste of grapes but only of desperation. In this case, however, you know the trick.
First of all, the winemaker is a living legend like Mario Bordini. The second is Modigliana’s terroir, which is borderland but in the mountains, where woods, excursions, and marine soils create unique conditions for producing sidereal and elegant wines.
And this 2019 Trebbiano vintage is spectacular. So much finesse, subtle fruit, floral, and silica references Everything is played on elegance, on delicate and subtle tones, and not on concentration. The incredible volume of salt and minerality astounds me.
You can bite it. layers, or rather slabs, of sea salt or a snowfall of Maldon salt for a delicatessen.
Jokes aside, try it and then cry, because few will know it, given that the value and fame of Trebbiano Romagna are overshadowed by the watered-down supermarket wines, produced by the horrid social cellars, which pay nothing for the grapes and make wines that seem like lemon dish soap.
How it is produced
The grapes were selected from a cru nestled between hills and woods; the first vines were planted in 1960, then integrated with more recent ones in 2001. organic management of the vineyard’s spontaneous fermentation, aging in steel, and then bottling.
Organoleptic characteristics
soft yellow mallard beak. The bouquet is bristly with salt but dapper, penetrating with flowers and mint, citrus and clams, ginger, and a splash of tropical whiteness. It’s not the bomb, but Trebbiano never is, and above all, this is still young.
That nutty, honeyed breath is barely hinted at, hidden under a sea of oysters, and it will soon blossom.
On the palate, it is a whip, has a slender structure, punctures the tongue for lemon and salt, has rhythm, pulp, great layering, and an imaginative length that gives peace to the palate.
Price
15–17 euros: an adequate price. The wine is a great white, and a great bottle to open for Valentine’s Day dinner or as an aperitif.
Food Pairings
A lot of pulp, saltiness and zappy energy push towards spicy and Thai dishes. Recommended dishes: Chicken Cacciatore, Vitello Tonnato, pasta alla carbonara, Pad Thai.
