Mayfair gin tasting notes: to buy or not to buy?
Mayfair London Dry Gin Review
Mayfair London Dry Gin is an elegant, polished gin with a clean, complex and surprisingly subtle personality.
What immediately emerges on the nose is its aromatic richness: juniper, flowers, citrus peel, coriander, roots and sweet spices weave together without one note brutally crushing the others. It has depth, but above all finesse.
Do not expect some muscular battle-gin loaded with resin and juniper. Mayfair plays a different game. It is slender, precise and graceful, almost a meditation gin, although its 40% alcohol gives it enough backbone to stay serious.
Mayfair Gin bouquet
The nose is refined and beautifully composed. Juniper provides the structure, then come floral nuances, lemon peel, coriander, angelica and earthy touches of orris root.
There is something shady and woodland-like underneath, a mixture of roots, herbs and gentle resinous notes that gives the bouquet depth without making it heavy.
It does not shout. It whispers, but with excellent diction.
What does Mayfair Gin taste like?
On the palate, Mayfair expands gently across the mouth with remarkable grace.
It is clean, smooth and finely chiseled, with a warm alcoholic core surrounded by juniper, citrus, herbs and delicate spices. The profile remains dry and disciplined throughout, while the finish is neat, floral and lightly peppery.
If you are looking for a strong, wiry gin to throw into some nasty Alexander party, you can skip this bottle.
Not because Mayfair lacks character — quite the opposite — but because its charm lies in detail and balance. Bury it under Campari, powerful vermouth or aggressively bitter ingredients and you risk losing the best part of it.
What cocktails should you make with Mayfair Gin?
Keep it simple.
A clean Gin Tonic is the obvious starting point, followed by a Dry Martini, Tom Collins, French 75, Tuxedo or Paradise.
The Bramble is another excellent option: blackberry liqueur brings sweetness and dark fruit without completely suffocating Mayfair’s floral side.
Cocktails with orange juice such as the Bronx also suit its citrus and floral character beautifully.
I would be more cautious with the Negroni. It can certainly be made, but Campari and vermouth easily dominate a gin this delicate.
Mayfair Gin price
Mayfair London Dry Gin is bottled at 40% ABV and today a 70 cl bottle generally costs around 30 euros online.
At that price it becomes particularly attractive.

To buy or not to buy Mayfair Gin?
Yes, if you appreciate elegant gin.
Mayfair is not a monster of juniper, resin and exotic botanicals. It is a fine, controlled spirit built around balance, flowers, citrus, roots and the scents of a shady forest.
Drink it neat, put it in a Martini or give it a good tonic and very little else.
If you want brute force, look elsewhere. If you want finesse, Mayfair could be a beautiful surprise.
