The Glenmorangie Lasanta 12 years is a velvety, docile, spicy and well-designed whisky. The fruit is ripe and very syrupy, thanks to two years of aging in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez barrels, which helps oxygenate to the nth degree and confer medicinal and dried fruit notes to the whisky. Overall it’s an interesting Highland single malt, it doesn’t have an amazing persistence or personality, but the drinkability is very high and the malt has also been tamed, so don’t expect a hard, pure whiskey.
Organoleptic characteristics of the Glenmorangie Lasanta
The bouquet is classic and stylized, shaped by a refinement that leaves no way out. The fruit is ripe, dripping with honey and almonds, it seems to smell the laboratory of a pastry that is making avalanches of Carthusians and gingerbreads. Everything is very rich, sumptuous, spicy, full of cinnamon and chocolate, coffee, vanilla, sequentially bursting streams of cream and dried fruit. The variety is very wide but remains on the surface, the malt sinks in a sea of honey and pepper.
On the palate it is domed, it moves sinuously, winks with sweetness and then comes a touch of freshness that smells of bitter orange and cardamon. The thickness of the sip is discreet; warmth and structure are decisive, not colossal, but well supported by more nutty flavors of almonds and walnuts. Not exactly an astringent tannin, but a minimum of contrast that gives articulation and momentum to the sip, yes, you can taste it. Overall it is a docile and velvety Highland single malt, not too cerebral, tasty, easy to drink.
How is made?
10 years aging in American oak barrels used for the Bourbon and then ages for 2 more years in barrels used for Oloroso sherry.

50-55 euros: it is more or less in line with competing single malts.

The structure is there, so combine it with smoked dishes, terrines, grilled salmon, even if the best match is with chocolate desserts such as chocolate cupcakes, cheesecakes, ciambella, Tiramisù or chocolate salami.
