Champagne Roger Pouillon et Fils Brut Réserve: wine review, price and food pairings
If you are looking for a balanced, elegant, savory and fresh Champagne, but never too sharp, then the Champagne Roger Pouillon et Fils Brut Réserve is the bottle for you. It is sold at an excellent price and it’s the quintessence of composure and elegance, a Champagne that starts from excellent grapes, but then it is polished with wisdom by this historic Champagne maison, renowned for the ability to create cuvées that are always pleasant. With this, we do not mean that it’s static, banal or stylized, not at all: the dosage is functional and never overbearing, but do not expect slashes of chalk or an abyss of freshness.
It is not an extreme Champagne, but a successful combination of the Mareuil-sur-Aÿ terroir and the ability to shape and create in the cellar thanks to a subtle game of alchemy. For the rest, it will never disappoint you, this is a home run wine. It is creamy, structured, has fine aromas, of good persistence, with suggestive yeasts that open up in a precise aromatic range, played on a delicate balance between pulp, acidity, all with a discreet outline of minerality.
The blend is a classic 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier, with aging in steel and wood, malolactic and then resting on the lees for 30 months. The vintage wines are 70% and those of the house are 30%
Champagne Roger Pouillon et Fils Brut Réserve bouquet
Crystalline nose, marked by a greedy fruit, flowers, toasted notes, citrus fruits and then the classic yeast hints. Everything is declined with elegance, it doesn’t waver, it doesn’t dare much, don’t expect fireworks, though. Pleasant Mediterranean scrub finish.
What does the Champagne Roger Pouillon et Fils Brut Réserve taste like
In the mouth it is agile, has character and volume, driven by a good citrus freshness that gives it momentum. Yeasts have worked well and make it seductive. A suggestive and persistent finish of hazelnuts and citrus fruits. Excellent balance with silk carbonic.
As said it is a traditional Champagne in all respects, in medio stat virtus.
