Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry tasting notes and review
The Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry is the entry-level wine of the production of the legendary Aubry brothers, whose winery is located in the small village of Jouy-lès-Reims, in the heart of Champagne.
We are talking about one of the oldest Champagne families, so much so that they have been owners since 1790. Today the two brothers Philippe and Pierre work 14 hectares of vineyards with a great love for their territory.
They are working hard to revive ancient vines such as Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Fromenteau, and Enfumé, to break the classic styles of modern Champagne, victim of the stylistic choices imposed by the great Masons.
The blend of this Champagne is a punch in the face to classic laws of elegance established by fashions: 60 Pinot Meunier, 20 Chardonnay, and 20 Pinot Noir.
Pinot Meunier is certainly the least prized of the three vines used for Champagne, however, it is the one that has a very lively freshness and strong fruity notes.
But remember that this Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry does not aim to make long aging. Indeed it is a super drinkable Champagne, structured, but never too sumptuous. It’s a nice wine: rigorous, clean, fresh, full of fruity-floral scents but basically a simple wine.
To be synthetic it is a good product, a well-made Champagne, with an honest cost and a not too complex aromatic profile. It does its duty well.
The scents of Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry
The bouquet is quite broad, very clean, buttery, played between fruity references of mango and peaches and sweet almond blossoms. There some titillating mineral hints to frame a pleasant and slender aromatic picture, not too complex, but well-designed. The yeasts already show signs of evolution with clear scents of sugared almonds and brioche. Marine and ginger echoes in the finish.
What does Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry taste like?
On the palate, it is very fresh and attractive, with a medium structure, but silky, delicate bubbles. The flavor is excellent, sculpted and mottled by many layers that open up little by little. Lively acidity helps to give rigor, vertical development and good rhythm to drinking.
It is not particularly complex, but there are no burrs and everything runs smoothly, until a final where the butter-sea dualism re-emerges.
Champagne Premier Cru Brut Aubry price
You can buy it for 35 euros, a fair price for a good bottle, excellent as a gift for friends who are not too demanding in terms of Champagne or to accompany dinners based on fish and shellfish.
