2019 Semplicemente Vino Bellotti Bianco review and tasting notes
The 2019 Semplicemente Vino Bellotti Bianco is a sharp and straightforward white wine with a humble background. It has a subtle drinkability that you won’t be able to live without once you try it. It is not a wine with a lot of body or a lot of complexity. Instead, it has a sharp profile, a lot of rockiness, and very clear aromas.
How it is produced
It is an IGT, a 100% Cortese, outside the box of banality and the stylistic shackles of bureaucrats, even if, according to the boorish Italian law, you will not find the name of the vine on the label. You know Cascina degli Ulivi: a natural cellar par excellence, where biodynamics is a philosophy of life and land, not an advertising proclamation to sell more bottles. Fermentation without filtration or clarification, aging in large wood.
Of course, no sulfites are added.
Organoleptic characteristics
Bright yellow color. Lemon, rock, flowers, and a hint of lava fade into honey and a trickle of butter in the bouquet, which is hard, shrill, cheeky, and without a parachute. It’s nothing pyrotechnic, but it’s frank and direct, not massaged or made up by intrusive wood.
On the palate, it is like the nose—sharp and light-hearted. It does not bend to embroidery or flattery but goes its own way, full of juicy flavors, rocks, and lots of pulp.
It has an abundance of edge and freshness, but the structure is believable, not pumped up or artificially massaged by the refinement, even if it has a good overall softness. Sure, he’s still edgy, but he’s certainly not without poise and charisma.
It shows itself as it is, in an attempt to respect the starting point from which it was born, without much embellishment or forcing.
It’s not an immortal wine or the ultimate bowl, but as an everyday wine, it’s splendid. It will not disappoint you and offers a lot of substance at an honest price.
Few wines have the guts to show up without makeup and without wanting to be something more to everyone. This is especially true in the Italian wine industry, where the sterile look of “influencers” from the countryside has taken over.
Biodynamics has been practiced here since 1984; they didn’t improvise.
