The cocktail we are going to make today is our declaration of love for whiskey and we’ve called it Space Monkey. There is a reason, who finds it will win a t-shirt, so don’t be shy.
Often whiskey is seen as an ancient/boring/snooty/too monolithic distillate, relegated to a meditation function, to accompany a cigar, slippers and an old chair in human skin in front of a crackling fireplace.
Instead, whisky is an amazing ingredient for making cocktails: it adds a superb alcoholic vigor charge, accompanied by smoked flavors that slowly fade into a caressing sweetness.
It’s the perfect partner for coconut water. Attention, not cream: keep that for your pina colada!
In this case, the new ingredient is coconut water, but there are a thousand more to use and explore the glowing galaxy of whiskey cocktails.
Space Monkey cocktail ingredients
- 4.5 cl of whisky
- 3.5 cl coconut water
- 1 cl of orange juice
- 1 cl sugar syrup
- 2 dashes of Angostura
How to make the perfect Space Monkey Cocktail
Squeeze half an orange and strain the juice.
Fill a shaker with ice.
Pour whiskey, coconut water, orange juice and two drops of Angostura.
Shake for 15 seconds and pour into a chilled Moscato or Martini glass.
The Space Monkey has a warm, spicy flavor, with a fresh touch given by orange that is lost in the tropical taste of coconut. The bitter is necessary to add a face, a sharp edge to balance the drink. Do not use too much sugar, because coconut water already has plenty of it.
Enjoy the Monkey!
Space Monkey food pairings
It’s a kind of mix of sweet and smoky flavors so let’s pair paella, brisket, Tiramisù and of course chocolate salami.
