Cantina Cobelli
That of the Cobelli is a story of land and love that was born on a hill in Sorni di Lavis 150 years ago. And from then to today, the passion for the vineyard passes from father to son and becomes contagious. Today at the helm of the Cobelli farm we have Denis and Tiziano, two young brothers who do their utmost to carry on the tradition, focusing on absolute quality to produce wines that are of character, but above all typical, the mirror of this wonderful territory, nestled between the Dolomites and the green of the woods.
Cobelli philosophy
Making wine is not easy if you do not have clear ideas, but the Cobelli brothers have started off on the right foot: respect and sensitivity for the environment and the unique characteristics of Lavis. The soil is a mix of chalk, limestone and silt and it changes from meter to meter and therefore also the layout of the vineyard varies accordingly. In fact, various crus have been identified which are vinified separately to maintain their characteristics.
The classic Trentino pergola was chosen as the breeding system with absurdly low yields, almost non-existent treatments, grassy rows with few cuttings to maintain biodiversity among the yarns. As a result we have healthy, splendid grapes, just look at the photos to realize it. The mountains take care of the rest to protect from the north winds and the Ora del Garda which brings the heat of the lake and keeps the grapes dry. Nothing abstruse, just the old wisdom that has passed from father to son.
Style of the wines of the Cobelli winery
Those of the Cobelli are wines that speak, very intense, crystalline in the vinification and daring in the aromatic development. From everything we have said it looks like a hard and pure natural cellar, but there are no imperfections, reductions, cheerful volatiles in the wines. They are marked by an impressive minerality, with a precise and clean timbre. Of course there is a lot of matter and although they are already very pleasant now, they are wines with a great evolutionary potential, despite the vintages proposed already have a few years on their shoulders, for the series: the wine comes out when it is ready.
The labels are few, but good, with typical vines including Nosiola, Gewurztraminer, Teroldego, but also the Trentodoc that is about to come out to applause. Arlevo, the name already says it all, is a Chardonnay of sidereal beauty, Dolomite rock covered with silk.
In 2015, a splendid farmhouse was also born where you can stay surrounded by vineyards, with a breathtaking view of the Dolomites. If you are a fan or just looking for relaxation, the rooms furnished with barrels and barriques and cellar materials are a dream come true!
Gess vintage, Gewurztraminer
Gess in dialect means chalk, in honor of the soil from which it originates. 60-70 quintals per hectare. Golden color with a nose that explodes in all the aromatic grace of Gewurztraminer, but ennobled by a series of mineral aromas that creep between passion fruit, pepper and ginger. If the nose is sumptuous, the mouth is warm and round, but always lively, with a crazy sapid development. A purebred Gewurztraminer, dolomitic, pairing: egg in San Domenico ravioli.
Grill, Teroldego
Mysterious ruby color. Earthy nose, intriguing with well-dosed sweet spices that embrace a warm fruit based on plums and sour cherries in alcohol. Earthy notes in support. In the mouth it is broad, powerful flowing, driven by tonic but well-balanced tannins. Savory tips mix with licorice and rhubarb flavors. Splendid, vigorous finish: remarkable aging potential, 10 years. To be combined with veal with tuna sauce, gnocchi with meat sauce, chicken curry, baked lasagna, roast beef, hamburger, Wellington-style fillet.
Arlevo, Chardonnay
Golden color and a champion nose with a sequence that goes from hazelnuts, to butter, passing through flowery meadows and yellow plums. Mineral bursts to embellish a bouquet of full elegance and which is granted layer by layer. Round, buttery and warm mouth with toasted hazelnuts, in balance between flavor and freshness. Despite being a Chardonnay, the most international of all the vines, here, on the slopes of this chalk hill, it has found its place, a home and becomes typical as only the white wines of the Dolomites can be. To be paired with spaghetti with clams or horseradish dumplings. The name has a whole story behind it and it would be a question addressed to fathers, how is your child, that is, how do you “raise” him? If this is not love …
Trentodoc
We finish in a big way with the Trentodoc. It is not yet on the market, but it is already a small masterpiece. Golden robe and all-mineral nose that reveals a glacial depth: just smell and you are immediately brought to high altitude. Musk, peach, then the returns of magnolia, lemon and jasmine are splendid. In the mouth it is very savory, crossed by a vein of citrus freshness that keeps the wine vibrant. Memorable ending. Still young, but if a good day starts in the morning we are on horseback! To be combined with sushi, sea bass in salt, smacafam, polenta carbonera, fish carbonara.
