Unveiling the Majesty of Bruno Giacosa’s Barolo Falletto 2005: A Symphony of Earth and Fruit
Bruno Giacosa’s Barolo Falletto 2005 is a colossal and evolved wine, a magnificent symphony of earth and fruit, a wine that has relaxed over the years in the bottle and has dug into the depths of the charm of Nebbiolo, reaching an imaginative evolution.
It has lost much of its youthful fire, giving the tannins the opportunity to open up in an anthology of unique earthy, mineral, and smoky notes. From cinchona to rhubarb through cola and all the medicinal herbs of this world, you will find all shades of flavor.
We’ll tell you right away that if you buy it today, it will cost you 300 euros, and maybe it’s not worth it. It is a great wine, an icon, a unique distillate from an exceptional cru, but 300 euros is really too much, especially if you consider that the latest vintages cost 160–170 euros.
Ok, it’s excellent, but it’s not the definitive Barolo to pass out for. If you buy it as an investment, it is another matter, and it is something to focus on without delay.
How it is produced
The grapes come from a legendary cru such as Castelletto Falletto, which undergoes destemming, 30-day maceration, and spontaneous fermentation. Aging for 3 years in 50 hectoliter French oak barrels.
Organoleptic characteristics
Brick color, transparent. Straight nose with pungent fruit, camphor, tea, and a thousand dried petals scents. China and truffle.
On the palate, it is composed, deep, and persuasive, still rocky, but with relaxed tannins that offer great elegance. Remarkable structure, good juiciness, and generous breadth. The precision and the excerpt are splendid, well modulated, and bewitching.
Layer after layer, roots and mushrooms are savored with small fruits in alcohol and undergrowth to arrive at a delicate and floral finish.
Incredible wine, a true monument to Nebbiolo.

300 euros.
