Savor the Savings with the Balsamic Chioso dei Pomi 2015 from Rovellotti Ghemme
The Rovellotti Ghemme Chioso dei Pomi 2015 is a rocky and balsamic Piedmontese red wine, a classic blend of the Novara area where Nebbiolo and Vespolina dance together among the rocks of the Cusian pre-Alps.
All of the classic Nebbiolo characteristics are present: structure, ethereal notes, and vigor, but they are declined with greater delicacy.
The charm of this wine is extraordinary, as is its depth. We are not in the Langhe, and therefore, unlike Barolo and Barbaresco, here the subtle and aromatic parts are preferred, leaving concentration and tannins in the background.
Of course, it is still a tannic wine that could be aged for 20 years in the cellar, but the cut and spirit are different, if only due to the fact that the Vespolina (present at 15%) is much lighter.
How it is produced
The Ravellotti winery is an artisan reality of the Ghemme DOCG designation. They work carefully, using as few treatments as possible and taking good care of the vineyards.
Vinification in wood and steel, fermentation with selected yeasts, and maceration for at least 20 days. Then it ages for one year in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by another year and a half of rest in tonneaux.
Organoleptic characteristics
Transparent ruby color. Balsamic is full of floral and herbaceous notes; it has character and finesse, a well-managed and very restrained animalistic trait, and lots of wood.
Everything speaks of the forest in this sylvan symphony: small fruits, dry leaves, hazelnuts, earth, mushrooms, and rock. Imagine the most delicate notes of watermelon and orange as a frame. chocolate and rhubarb finish.
On the palate, we find the theme of the forest and the earth in flavors that are articulated around firm but never rude tannins. Flavors of bitter orange, tamarind, karkadè, and more black tea
low acidity, but it compensates with discreet minerality and a statuesque body, well sculpted by tannins. It has rhythm, charisma, and pleasantness.
It’s not a very deep or long-lasting wine in terms of how it tastes, but what makes it stand out is how clean it is and how calm and cheeky it is at the same time.
The mineral boost helps it rise.
It has all the qualities that a purebred Nebbiolo should have, but it doesn’t have the weight and eagerness of the more noble and pretentious wines. It is an easy and direct interpretation that makes it clear that there are not only Barolo, Barbaresco, and Roero but also many other nuances.
