Porto Quinta de la Rosa vintage 2000 tasting notes and review
Porto Quinta de la Rosa vintage 2000 is a very sumptuous Port wine, full of balsamic memories, a great sweet wine for meditation, not to mention that now, and only now, it begins to develop a very intriguing ethereal-tertiary charm.
The fruit is still lively, ripe, the tannins are vigorous and give remarkable structure, the acidity is still felt, but it does not bite and the alcohol is dosed with elegance and measure. Hot, but not overcooked, it lets itself go to peaks of pepper, but it never ends in arrogance.
How is vintage 2000 Porto Quinta de la Rosa made?
Grape harvest with perfect, long and slow polyphenolic maturation followed by pressing in the typical concrete tanks, with the feet obviously, old style. The wine ferments for four days and then rests for 18 months in wood. The 2000 vintage was very hot, generous in terms of ripeness and concentration, but poor in production, the resulting Port is of an incredible density, rich in matter, almost chewable, but tannins and acidity avoid the risk of boredom. The blend of the Quinta de la Rosa vintage 2000: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, classic.
Porto Quinta de la Rosa 2000 vintage bouquet
Balsamic nose, the fruit is a cornucopia of black fruits, plums in alcohol, which are supported by spicy, herbaceous and cocoa and licorice suggestions. The aromatic picture it offers is suggestive, but very full, without ever slipping into redundancy: everything is articulated with a lot of cleanliness and the wood is well integrated. Super nutty finish of dried fruit, rhubarb and ripe cherries.
What does Porto Quinta de la Rosa vintage 2000 taste like?
It is compact, ripe with well-defined flavors of marasca cherries in alcohol and many juicy hints of wild berries on the palate. Spices are light waves that soften the sip but remain sober. The nutty oxidation flavors are greedy, ripe dates and walnuts, that slightly decadent touch to broaden the gustatory framework, which in any case is large and well designed. The tannins are still quick and straight and never let themselves be intimidated by sweetness and enveloping fruit. Overall it is an elegant, persuasive Port wine, but the sweetness is well dosed and never becomes an end in itself or redundant.
Pleasant, fine and expressive, but not too complex, always easy to read and satisfying.
Porto Quinta della Rosa vintage 2000 food pairings
Obviously with this structure and still vigorous tannins it is perfect to accompany chocolate ice cream or extra dark chocolate, walnut cake, pumpkin desserts and cheesecake. Also worth trying as aged and blue cheeses such as Stilton, Gorgonzola and Roquefort.
