Macchiona 2010 La Stoppa: an amazing natural red wine
2010 Macchiona La Stoppa is a splendid and sunny wine, juicy and ample, structured but very drinkable, with a rustic and greedy tone but endowed with depth and elegance.
Perhaps we are not 100% objective, but it is impossible not to fall in love with the wines of La Stoppa winery.
Great texture, personality, all-round juice, and an endless savory boost
They are not perfect and perfectly combed wines, but the beauty is precisely the craftsmanship, the sometimes abrupt stroke, and also the animal, flesh, and blood tones that are found at times.
Everything is part of the winemaking process, and each part is designed to find balance with the refinement in the bottle. And in fact, today we drink this large bottle that was born in 2010.
To fully appreciate it, even with the acidity it still has, it could go on for another 10 peaceful years.
How it is produced
The vineyards are located in the hills of Val Trebbiola, not far from the Trebbia river. respectful organic management for decades. Manual harvest, destemming, and fermentation with long maceration in steel and then aging in a series of woods of various sizes
The blend is classic in pure Piacenza style: Barbera and Bonarda at 50 and 50. No fertilization, weeding, or pesticides are allowed in the vineyard, where the trees are between 15 and 45 years old.
Organoleptic characteristics
Ruby ruby. ripe and dense bouquet of black cherries, dried flowers, rosemary, cocoa, and delicate vegetal notes. just an animalistic ending, but not annoying.
On the palate, it is a broad and composed wine, chocolaty but always guided by an exhilarating acidity and fruity attitude.
The structure is good; it does not hold back, even if the tannins are very smooth and do not bind the palate. If you like bold, straightforward wines with great charm, this is a must-try.
Once drunk, you’ll never go back; it’s like the blue pill of the matrix.
Price
26–28 euros: a ridiculous price to pay for a wine of great depth that is already harmonious and highly drinkable.
Food Pairings
BBQ recipes, tacos, black truffle risotto, passatelli with Parmigiano fondue and truffle, bucatini all’amatriciana, roast beef, hamburger.
