Macallan Fine Oak 12 Years Old Review And Tasting Notes
The Macallan Fine Oak 12-year-old whisky is fruity and delicious, with a refined profile that is difficult to resist.
It’s not overly focused on sherry notes; on the contrary, it’s been perfected to strike a balance between fruit, spices, vanilla, and the richer, more mature tones that come from aging in ex-sherry barrels.
Despite this stylistic rigidity, we are not afraid to say that it is a great whisky for an unpretentious yet interesting moment of meditation.
We could define it as sophisticated but not too deep, slightly vain due to the power of te make-up, but never predictable.
How is Macallan Fine Oak 12 made?
The 12-year refinement method, which is nothing new under the sun, stands out for its prudent and measured use of oak barrels used for the production of sherry and American oak ex-bourbon.
Organoleptic characteristics of Macallan Fine Oak 12
The result of this refinement is a smooth, fruity, subtle spirit.
The bouquet is restrained and held together by oak and vanilla spices that stand out.
The fruity aromas are decisive but not too penetrating: burnt orange, peach, and sultanas, as if it were raining.
On the tongue, it is soft, smooth, and lively in the way the alcohol and freshness flow together.
The wood’s “contribution” is strong; you can feel the tannins and the oak almost bites. However, the mature suggestions balance out the wood’s “contribution” and give the distillate depth and dignity.
Not oily at all, it’s super juicy with delicate herbaceous traces. It focuses heavily on roundness and a wide, sumptuous, and spicy charm. In the finish, you can taste white chocolate, caramel, creme brulée, and coffee.
There is not much to say about this whisky: it is well made, but it lacks depth. The sherry has delicately sculpted the malt, but to be honest, it lacks a little flair.
This is a minor criticism, as a distillate is well-crafted and intended to appeal to a wide range of tastes.
