Johnnie Walker Green Label Blended Scotch Whisky review and tasting notes
Johnnie Walker Green Label Blended Scotch Whisky is a Scotch made with great care, studied down to the smallest detail to offer an insight into the flavor of Scotch whisky. It was born as a blend of Caol Ila for peat, Clynelish for pulpy fruit, Glenkinchie for flowers and delicate suggestions and then obviously Cardhu, the king of sweetness and honey.
The first impact is the peaty and marine tones of Caol Ila (also dominant as a percentage in the blend) to emerge, but then there is also the softness of Cardhu and the fruity roundness of Clynelish and then the flowers of Glenkinchie: in short, despite being a Scottish whiskey structure, knows how to be loved, winks.
And this is perhaps its flaw: it is a whiskey that as soon as you taste it exalts you for the jumble of flavors and aromas that intertwine, but then, in the long run, it gets tired, it starts strong, however, a certain stylization is evident that slows it down, let’s say that it remains on a very precise gustatory binary and does not have an extroverted character. It is precise, well dosed, it also teases your palate with spicy and then honeyed tones, it moves well, it has liveliness, but it is not very original. That’s all, it is a pleasant product that you can sip with a drizzle of water or use to make classic whiskey-based cocktails such as Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour.
The Bouquet
Complex and mottled, iridescent nose, first dark and very smoky tones that alternate with strong hints of citrus, caramel, nutmeg, ripe yellow fruit and honey. There is no shortage of flowers, like the calls of tea and then Cardhu emerges with a woody and almond tone. Overall it is clean, punctuated with great precision and perfectly dosed. Of course, it is always a peaty whiskey, so after landing on Islay you will enter the delightful Scottish countryside passing through fields and flowery hills. Excellent persistence.
What does Johnnie Walker Green Label taste like?
In the mouth, it is rightly alcoholic, rude with a peaty slap and then fades into fruity sensations with almonds and honey and dates. Iodized and still smoky finish. It has a nice look and the right alcoholic charge that is spicy and peppery, but it is not as persistent as the nose. It fades away slightly, but all in all, it is not evil.
A discreet whiskey with a certain elegance and measure, to try to get an overview of Scotland, but which remains static and all too tied to its roots. The sum of the parts is not greater than the parts themselves. Although this is a fault of many blended whiskeys.
