Grande Champagne Cognac Chateau d’Uffaut review and tasting notes
This splendid Grande Champagne Cognac Chateau d’Uffaut is an incredible bottle. One of those drinks that make your taste buds and nose go crazy. The price of this bottle is variable, unpredictable and susceptible, not so much to conditions as to the availability, which is very scarce. Consider that it is a distillate produced in the 70s and that the distillery closed its doors in the early 2000s.
It is not a bottle worth thousands of euros, but we are approaching the moment it becomes interesting, always speaking in terms of collecting. In the good old days, the distillery produced 70,000, so it is not an exclusive product, but it will reach a reasonable price for those who will be patient in 20 years.
But why wait when we can now drink an excellent cognac?
And in fact, the tasting turned out to be excellent. The fruit is ripe, dark, oxidized, and full of spicy references. The heat is not aggressive, well balanced by complexity and softness.
The bouquet is sumptuous, baroque, decadent and full of references of dried fruit, broom, chamomile, chocolate and super nutty hints of almond. The red thread that unites everything is the nervous vinous aroma that is already changing into ethereal and syrupy features.
It is dry and straight on the palate, light-hearted as alcohol, but well-drawn by acidity, pepper, mint, and herbaceous features. The rhythm is solemn, of moving without hesitation, but with a majestic, rich step, leaving behind a trail of tobacco, raisins and peaches in syrup.
Incredible length, elegance, with a full and charming sip, just as befits a distillate produced in the mecca of cognac, the Grande Champagne.
Price
50-80 euros. Buy three bottles, drink one and leave the others in the cellar for 20 years if you want to make a good investment.
