Gin Mare tasting notes and review
After years and years of Gin & Tonic, we finally talk about Gin Mare. We had never written about this Spanish ubiquitous gin and perhaps for this reason we had taken it for granted.
But let’s get straight to the point, how is this Gin Mare?
Of course, it is a clean and well-made product, but our doubt lies in its exasperated flavoring.
Do you hate it or do you love it?
Perhaps, but it is also true that what was once its greatest strength, that is a clear Mediterranean reminder of rosemary, basil and olives, has also become its limit, it has reduced its horizons, making it stylized and somewhat static.
We do not want to be too strict, it does not mean that it is not a good gin, on the contrary, especially if used in combination with a good tonic and aromatic herb leaves it is always a home run.
The fact is that, if you never say no to a gin and tonic with Gin Mare, it is true that in this period of gustatory earthquakes, where hundreds of bottles of gin, full of nuances with a thousand faces, born every day, the aromatic brand of Gin Mare appears too “obvious”.
Having said that and if we consider that in any cash and carry you can buy it for 30 euros, we cannot complain: it is an excellent working gin.
Gin Mare bouquet
The classic base of coriander, juniper and citrus is flanked by very intense Mediterranean aromas: thyme, basil, rosemary and olives. Clean, long finish with resinous notes that mix with pepper and ginger.
What does Gin Mare taste like?
In the mouth, it is sharp, dynamic, thick, well-modulated by spices and a lively rhythm that envelops the palate smoothly. Precise balance, good persistence, very marked herbaceous suggestions given by aromatic herbs, but by now we are used to it.
Gin Mare price
30 euros.
Cocktail to do with Gin Mare
Do not use it so much with vermouth, as with tonic for Gin Tonic or various juices for Singapore Sling and the Bronx.
