Experience the Intense Spice of Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore DOCG Tajà 2016: A Robust Red Wine from Cascina Bretta Rossa
Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore DOCG Tajà 2016 Cascina Bretta Rossa is a soft and enveloping wine, very warm, syrupy, and dense, full of spices, jam, and lots of pulp.
It’s meant to be strong and full, but luckily it never gets boring and stays straight, clean, and easy to drink.
The wood has shaped all this extract a lot, but honestly, drinking it today doesn’t make much sense; surely it still takes 4-5 years to shape all this fieryness and refine the tannins.
How it is produced
The vineyards are in the hills of Ovada and are 80 years old, a feature that has led them to drastically reduce production but raise the quality of the grapes. After the harvest, the bunches are destemmed and crushed, and the wine ferments in wooden vats. The refinement takes place in large barrels.
Organoleptic characteristics
The bouquet is dense, dark, and full of withered flowers, blueberries, and plums in alcohol. Coffee and chocolate galore, vanilla; the wood pushes a lot, but the natural exuberance of Dolcetto emerges in all its glory. Slightly earthy finish.
The palate is warm, full, and very dense, with slightly smoky flavors. Lavender and plums on the finish Full-bodied structure, still powerful tannins, and good freshness. Overall, it is not a subtle or fine wine but focuses on explosiveness.
Maturity in 4-5 years.
Price
16 euros is a good price for a nice red wine that isn’t especially creative or original but is made with a certain attitude.
