Etna Rosso DOC Nireddu 2016: a lovely Sicilian red wine
This Etna Rosso DOC Nireddu 2016 is a fresh and charming Sicilian wine, with a balsamic and tousled trait, but one that is very pleasant, fruity, and never too tannic.
Let’s say it’s a wine from Etna that titillates you with the unique charm of these incredible wines, but it doesn’t aim for exceptional depth.
No, it wants to be full of juice and vigor and not go into detail or practice the path of finesse at all costs.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t a good wine.
It is, but it tends to put more emphasis on speed and brightness than on concentration.
Because of this, it is a great red wine for summer picnics or to go with spicy Indian or Chinese food.
How it is produced
Vineyards at an altitude of 650 on the north side of Etna. The average age of the vines is 70 years. Pressing, spontaneous fermentation in steel, a few months in wooden barrels, and then aging in the bottle. 80% of Nerello Mascalese and 20% of Nerello Cappuccio
Organoleptic characteristics
The result is a greedy, rocky wine, but with a brisk pace. The tannins are inserted with precision in a fruit that is not large but slender and pointed, dominated by scents of wood, eucalyptus, and lava. It’s not particularly layered, but it does its duty.
On the palate, it has thrust, roundness, and precision. Medium structure, great smoothness, juiciness that tastes like orange, and lots of pulp. Tannins are present but not green and are well integrated. At the service of the drink.
All in all, a simple and direct wine, clean, well made, and without frills.
Price
20 euros is an adequate price, and the quality of the wine is impeccable.
Pairings
Mixed paella, black truffle risotto, passatelli with Parmigiano fondue and truffle, bucatini all’amatriciana, roast beef, hamburger.
