Chardonnay Riserva 2016 Kellerei Bozen tasting note and review
This Kellerei Bozen Chardonnay Riserva 2016 is a classic, mineral and precise white wine. It starts from excellent grapes produced on porphyritic soils at an altitude of 650 meters, caressed by a significant temperature range that helps develop acidity, fragrances, and finesse.
The result is a bold Chardonnay with a beautiful structure, very fresh and mineral, but which, thanks to bold wood aging in wood, develops richness, buttery, softness, and a certain aromatic maturity. Don’t worry, the hints of vanilla from barrique are light: it must be said that the wood has carved all this extract gracefully without repressing the natural expressiveness of the Chardonnay grape variety.
Soft pressing, fermentation and malolactic fermentation in steel, aging in barrique and tonneau and then some months of rest bottle. A classic process for a good Riserva that is not short of ambitions.

Sumptuous, enveloping, very rich nose with yellow fruits, flowers then turns to tropical with passion fruit, pineapple, lilies of the valley and lemon. Let’s say it is a very wide nose, but never messy, indeed there are elegant mineral and aromatic herbs aromas that give variety and break the arrogance of the fruit. Vanilla and cinnamon are knocking on the finish. Remarkable persistence and thickness.
What does Chardonnay Riserva 2016 Kellerei Bozen taste like?
All this opulence in the mouth is transformed into a sumptuos sip. It is a classic Chardonnay from Bolzano, very rocky, but also muscular, yet properly sculpted. In the mouth, it fluctuates gracefully between creaminess-honey-butter and the acidity of citrus fruits, with savory touches to close the circle. Excellent pulp, good flavor, it is not yet ripe, let’s say it has just blossomed, but if you have patience it will be able to develop a whole series of buttery and tertiary notes that will add great charm.
Chardonnay Riserva 2016 Kellerei Bozen food pairings
Excellent with fish, appetizers and cold cuts, pasta with Genoese pesto to enhance the aromatic notes. But given its powerful structure, you can easily combine it with white meats, veal rolls, Black truffle risotto, passatelli with Parmigiano fondue and truffle, bucatini all’amatriciana, carbonara. With Chinese cuisine it is fabulous, even for simple Cantonese rice.
