The Mezcalzone cocktail is an innocent Christmas experiment, a sweet & bitter drink that starts from the aromatic consistency of orange marmalade, touches the banks of the bitter and flows into the smoky warmth of the Mexican mezcal.

What does it mean?

Nothing, but we have to tell you that this Mezcalzone cocktail is a bomb, the name says it all: mascalzone means scoundrel… It’s a nasty, tricky guy, very complex and aromatic, with a polyhedric flavor made of lights and shadows that whet the palate with grace.

That said how do you make this cocktail and when should you drink it?

The Mezcalzone is a classic aperitivo, the alcohol content is fairly light, so keep it in mind when you’ll prepare your Christmas aperitif.

The ingredients are not very easy to find, but right now essences and spices should not miss in your bartender suitcase: orange marmalade, bitter cardamom for a touch spicy, bitter and mezcal. Let’s roll!

Mezcalzone cocktail ingredients

  • 4 cl of mezcal
  • 2 cl of bitter
  • 2 drops of cardamom bitters
  • 1 teaspoon of marmalade
  • 1 cl of orange juice
  • 0.5 cl of sugar syrup or even better maraschino cherry syrup
1 tablespoon of Aurum or triple sec

How to make the Mezcalzone cocktail

Squeeze half an orange, then strain the juice.

Cool a glass with some ice then through it away.

Put all ingredients in a shaker, shake for 12 seconds and pour the cocktail filtering with a sieve.

Garnish with some curls of orange peel and serve the new king of the aperitifs.
