El Canonero cocktail is a bomb of perfumes, a classic summer drink, very easy to make, thirst-quenching, characterized by a velvety taste and great drinkability.

It is part of the great family of cobblers, those cocktails based on wine or spirits, served with sugar, fruit juices, and lots of crushed ice.

In this case, we played with the ingredients of the Canonero cocktail to find a good balance between acidic, aromatic, and velvety parts.

The base is composed of aged grappa and sherry or Marsala. Then we have peach nectar since it is a seasonal fruit, then rose water and cardamom to give aromas and depth, and instead of sugar, we used Don’s Mix, the ” syrup ”of cinnamon and grapefruit.

They seem like so many flavors together, but in the end, they hold up, they are all fresh and subtle, and no one bullies.

Ingredients and doses to make the El Canonero cocktail

  • 4 cl of aged grappa
  • 4 cl of peach nectar
  • 1 cl of sherry or Marsala
  • 1.5 cl of Don’s Mix
  • 2 cardamom seeds
  • 2 drops of rose water
  • crushed ice
  • a sprinkle of vanilla sugar

How to make the El Canonero cocktail

The recipe is straightforward. You need a little patience to make the Don’s Mix, which is nothing more than syrup of cinnamon, sugar, and grapefruit juice.

Put the cardamom and peach nectar in a shaker and pound with the pestle to flavor the cardamom.

Filter and then put back in the shaker, add some ice, the aged grappa, the sherry / Marsala, the Don’s Mix, the rose water, shake quickly for a maximum of 10 seconds, and then pour into a glass full of crushed ice.

Decorate with fruit to taste and then sprinkle with icing sugar.
