Unveiling Glen Scotia’s ‘Icons of Campbeltown’: A Whiskey Saga Rooted in Legend
Glen Scotia’s rolling out a showstopper: the Icons of Campbeltown series, a whiskey anthology celebrating the legends carved into Campbeltown’s ancient market cross. Crafted in the heart of Scotland, each bottle in this five-part series gives a nod to the 14th-century stone monument, adorned with saints, mythical beasts, and local heroes.
For this artistic ride, Glen Scotia’s teamed up with Joel Holtzmann—yeah, the guy whose art’s graced Marvel and LucasFilm. He’s whipping up exclusive artwork to grace each Icons of Campbeltown package.
First up, meet “The Mermaid.” A 12-year-old unpeated single malt, aged in bourbon barrels and fine-tuned in Palo Cortado sherry casks. Packed with flavors as mythical as its namesake, this 54.1% ABV powerhouse goes down without chill filtration.
What’s the backstory? Glen Scotia aims to tip the hat to mermaid sightings that have spiced up Campbeltown’s coastal lore for centuries. Hell, they even slapped a QR code on the package, diving into one iconic 1811 sighting by local John McIsaac.
Iain McAlister, Glen Scotia’s distillery manager and master distiller, is stoked. “”This single malt is a homage to our hometown fans as well as our global followers”. It’s an exhilarating, unpeated adventure in a bottle.”
Nick Bradley, the Senior Global Brand Manager, digs deeper. “Our Icons series is a storytelling stage,” he points out. “We dug through whiskey icon Charlie MacLean’s archives to flesh out the tales behind the market cross and had Holtzmann bring that lore to life.”
Available now for £90, you can snag “The Mermaid” online and through select retailers across continents. This isn’t just a bottle; it’s a voyage through Campbeltown’s storied past.
