Status Quo’s ‘Piledriver’ Whisky Rocks the Spirit World: 50 Years of Musical Legacy Bottled
Celebrating a Rock Legacy: The Piledriver Whisky A blended malt whisky, crafted as a tribute to Status Quo’s best-selling album “Piledriver,” has been unveiled in celebration of its golden jubilee.
Crafted by Glasgow’s Caskade Drinks, this seven-year-old whisky was meticulously selected by Francis Rossi and Status Quo, with the expertise of former Edrington blender Max McFarlane guiding the process.
This distinctive whisky, marking the third launch in Caskade’s exclusive Artist Collection, comprises single malts from six distinguished Scottish distilleries, each matured in first-fill sherry casks.
Released in 1972, “Piledriver” was a turning point for Status Quo, representing their first self-produced album and debut on the Vertigo label. It has since secured its status as an iconic work in British 70s rock.
Gareth Croll of Caskade Drinks expressed his enthusiasm: “Status Quo’s precise guitar riffs and harmonious anthems inspired us to create a symphonic blended whisky that truly resonates with their distinctive style and sound. Max McFarlane has truly excelled in blending this masterpiece.”
Available from 8 December at 10 am via caskadedrinks.com, this limited-edition offering will feature only 500 bottles.
Status Quo joins the ranks of illustrious musicians who have ventured into the whisky world, such as Bob Dylan with his Heaven’s Door whiskey (slated for its first distillery in Kentucky in 2024), Metallica’s collaboration with Dave Pickerell for Blackened Whiskey, and the Scorpions’ partnership with Mackmyra for Rock n Roll Star single malt. Earlier this year, Sir Rod Stewart also ventured into the spirits realm with his Wolfie’s blended Scotch whisky.
