Lochlea’s Seasonal Salute: Harvest Edition Second Crop Debuts
Lochlea, a grain-to-glass Scottish distillery, has launched its latest seasonal release: the Harvest Edition Second Crop.
This Lowland distillery crafts unique small-batch whiskies, each representing distinct stages of the agricultural cycle: Harvest, Fallow, Ploughing, and Sowing. Every expression shines a light on Lochlea’s signature style, utilizing diverse maturation casks.
The Harvest Edition Second Crop boasts maturation in tawny and ruby port casks, STR (shaved, toasted, and re-charred) barriques, and first-fill bourbon barrels.
John Campbell, Lochlea’s production director, remarked, “Being an operational farm, our releases mirror our agricultural rhythm. The Second Crop of the Harvest Edition employs more port casks, given the spirit’s maturity. This enhances its creaminess while inheriting a peppery, floral touch from the STR barriques. This whisky captures the essence of late summer, as we gather golden barley for future production.”
This release, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV, parallels the strength of its predecessor, Harvest Edition First Crop. It’s now available from Lochlea distributors at an RRP of £51.60.
Beyond these seasonal treasures, Lochlea offers a staple whisky: Our Barley. This unpeated single malt matures in first-fill ex-bourbon, oloroso sherry, and STR casks.
