Culatello di Zibello Dop: A Holiday Success, Accounting for 40% of Annual Sales
Culatello di Zibello Dop proves themselves as the dominant protagonist on the Italian table throughout the Christmas season. According to data released by the Protection Consortium, which represents the 23 firms that produce the PDO, the Christmas season is critical, accounting for 40% of total yearly sales volume.
The Consortium’s forecast for the end of the year and the holidays shows a good trend. 2022 set a manufacturing record of 102,591 sealed pieces, with expectations for 2023 at roughly 80,000 pieces. There has also been a considerable rise in the category of sliced items, with over 100,000 kg already produced.
“Last year, following the pandemic phase, we exhausted all stocks due to high demand,” says Romeo Gualerzi, president of the Consortium for the Protection of Culatello di Zibello Dop. As a result, the present results are quite encouraging. The data we are collecting are amazing, and we intend to exceed them by 2024. The sliced product is also doing well, with consistent increase. We surpassed 877,432 trays in September, totaling more than 100,000 kg of Culatello di Zibello. We anticipate that these figures will rise further with the coming of Christmas, which accounts for a large chunk of yearly sales. Culatello di Zibello Dop is now a popular holiday present, with orders matching those of the previous year.”
