Camus & Gujingong: Crafting the Future of Whisky with Chinese Elegance
Camus and Gujingong Unite for a Unique Whisky Venture in Anhui
Camus and Gujingong, China’s fourth-largest baijiu producer, are joining forces to launch an innovative whisky distillery in Anhui Province. The new Guqi Distillery is poised to be a hub of super-premium whisky production, merging Chinese fermentation expertise, Scottish distilling techniques, and the nuanced ageing and blending methods of Cognac.
With construction commencing this November, the distillery is expected to commence production by 2025. Cyril Camus, President of Camus Wines & Spirits, sees Guqi as a pioneering spirit in the industry, embodying innovation, unique experiences, and synonymous with quality and excellence.
The collaboration aims to create the world’s most aromatic whiskies, employing novel techniques, ingredients, and flavors that transcend traditional whisky production. The design of the distillery itself reflects a fusion of French and Bozhou craftsmanship, symbolizing the blend of French, Scottish, and Chinese cultures.
Reflecting on his two decades of experience, Cyril Camus has been instrumental in bringing Chinese baijiu to the international forefront through a distribution partnership with Kweichow Moutai. This venture is part of the French group’s Spirit of China portfolio, furthering Camus’s ambition to position baijiu alongside Cognac and whisky as one of the world’s premier spirits.
